PICTOU – Olive Hazel Hendrican, 72, resident of the town of Pictou, passed from this world at the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, in the early morning of April 24, 2008. After a strong and graceful battle with heart and lung disease, peacefully in her sleep, she was delivered into the arms of her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Home at last. Born in Robinsons, Newfoundland, she was a daughter of the late Isaac and Leona (nee Shears) Legge. Beloved and devoted wife of the late J.E. “Ernie” Hendrican, she lived most of her life in the town of Pictou, where she devoted herself to her family and her “calling” in this life, bringing joy and hope to others in need, both at the Children’s Training Centre, working with handicapped children, and the North Shore Drug Dependency, as an addictions counsellor. The lives she touched with her love and compassion are innumerable. She was the best Mom, and she will be lovingly remembered always by her daughters, Jo-Ann (Kevin) Kiley, Ontario; Shelly Hendrican, Ontario; and son, Dan (Diane), Nova Scotia; and cherished “Nanny” to Simon, Ben, and Jana. Olive is also survived by brothers, Garland, Austin, Godden; and sisters, Millie, Viola, Neatha and their families. She was predeceased by her brothers: Westin, Vernon, and Robert. Visitation will be held 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday from Christian Fellowship Church, 489 Abercrombie Road, New Glasgow, with Rev. David Campbell officiating. A reception will follow. Burial will be in the Stella Maris Cemetery, Pictou. Donations in her memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Lung Association.
