Westville – Peter R. (Sonny) Johnstone, age 69 years, Picken Street, Westville, passed away March 16, 2007, in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, with his loving family by his side. Born in Westville, he was a son of the late Peter and Beatrice (Garneau) Johnstone. Sonny was a member of the Church of the Holy Name, Westville, and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 28, Stellarton. He was a coal miner by occupation, working at various coal mines, including the Drummond and Pioneer Coal. He enjoyed his summer home in Loch Broom with his family. Surviving, are his daughters, Vivian Lynds (Richard); April MacInnis (Terry); son Barry Johnstone (Arlene), all of Westville; eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren; sisters, Penny Duggan, Theresa Butler, Westville; Wanda Morris, Ajax, Ont.; Jane Bond, Walkerville; Beatrice Weaver (John), Halifax; Ida Quesnel (John), Montreal; Cameal Carlyle (Ron), Stellarton; Caroline Atwater (John Matheson), MacLellans Brook; brothers, Fraser (Leslie), Norman, Paul, Westville; companion Isabel Salter; Aunt Mary Palmer, Riverton. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Doris (Pettipas); sister Brenda Emilio; a grand daughter and great grandson. Visitations will be held Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m at Eagles’ Funeral Home, Westville. His funeral service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. from the Church of the Holy Name, Westville, with Father Donald Boudreau officiating. Cremation will follow. Burial will be in Lourdes Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Aberdeen Palliative Care or Nova Scotia Lung Association.
