Robert Henry “Bob” Porter of New Glasgow passed away Sunday, June 15, 2008, in the Aberdeen Hospital. Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late John A. and Mabel (MacKay) Porter. He was a retired embalmer and funeral director having worked for the Ross Funeral Home for several years before opening R.H. Porter Funeral Homes Ltd. in 1968. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and an honorary member of the Funeral Service Association of Nova Scotia. He is survived by sisters-in-law: Ethel Porter and Rose Fraser; extended family: Jean and Linda Fraser; Chris Grant; caregivers: Eleanor, Marilyn, Sylvia, Rosalie, Jane, Marilyn, Lottie and Mary. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Mildred Fraser; brothers: Allister, Jack, sisters: Marjorie and Hazel. Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday in the R.H. Porter Funeral Home New Glasgow. Funeral service 2 p.m. Thursday in First Presbyterian Church, New Glasgow, with Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson officiating. Burial will be in Abercrombie Cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to a charity of choice.
