MACDONALD, RODERICK EVERETT Roderick Macdonald of Fredericton, N.B. passed away on May 3, 2005 , in his 103rd year of life. Born in St Peter's Bay, P.E.I. on Sept 14, 1902, he was the son of Roderick and Josephine Macdonald and the husband of Veronica Mary Macdonald, nee Hughes. Roderick is survived by a son Robert (Sheila), three grandchildren, Janine Bringloe (Shawn), Kathleen Dafopoulos (Nicholas) and David (Helen) and six great grandchildren: Sasha, Chelsea, Alexander, Emma, Sarah, and Rachel, to whom he will always be known as "G-G". Roderick retired from the Bank of Nova Scotia in 1960, as manager of the Cobourg and Robie branch, Halifax, after 42 years of service. His career with the Bank took him to many communities and varied work responsibilities, beginning as teller in St. Peter's Bay where he joined the Bank, then to Charlottetown, Toronto head office, North Bay, Sudbury, Peterborough as accountant, Toronto head office as assistant to the General Manager, and manager of branches in Peterborough, St. Andrews, NB and Halifax. Rod was active during his working years in many charitable organizations, usually and not surprisingly, in the capacity of treasurer. He was an avid golfer and curler most of his adult life and took up these pursuits actively in his retirement. Roderick was a remarkable man and those many people who have met him will remember him fondly. He loved his extended family and the simple pleasures of life. He was a caring person, a gentle person and a gentleman. He was a most sociable individual who had the ability to strike up a conversation with a complete stranger and in short order, make him or her, a friend. He suffered life's troubles with cheerfulness and fortitude and always with a prayer on his lips, for he was a man who believed firmly and trustingly in the presence and mercy of God. He will be sorely missed. There will be no visitation, but a Mass to celebrate his life will be held at Holy Family Church, Hanwell Road on Saturday, May 7th at 10:00 am, With Reverend Jack Dolan officiating. A reception at the Church will follow the Mass. Interment will he in Ottawa, Ontario, where he will rest beside his wife.
