PICTOU – Sarah Agnes (MacDonald) Bourgeois, 89, of Pictou, died May 18, 2008, in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born November 15, 1918, in Inverness, she was a daughter of the late John N. and Jessie (Kennedy) MacDonald. Sarah came to Pictou to work at the shipyard during the war as a welder. She was an active member of the Stella Maris Parish, as a member of the choir, a longtime C.W.L. member, and volunteer with bingo, where she counted money for over 40 years. She also loved to knit, play cards, bowl, and dance, especially to ‘old time’ music. Sarah was predeceased by her husband of 46 years, Harry; sisters: Mary Jessie, Emma, Mary Ann, and Janie; brothers, Dan, Neil, Hugh J., Colin, and Dougall. She is survived by daughters: Barbara (John) MacLennan, Lyons Brook; Carolyn (Paul) Veniot, Pictou; Rosalind (Ken) Benoit, Fall River; grandsons, Peter Veniot, Fredericton and Michael Benoit, Halifax; granddaughter, Ellen Benoit, Fall River; and sister-in-law, Emma Fleury, Pictou. Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Funeral Mass will be held 11 a.m. Thursday from the Stella Maris Roman Catholic Church, Pictou, with Father Peter MacDonald officiating. Burial will be in Seaview Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to the Stella Maris Church Building Fund, or the Shiretown Nursing Home Activities Department. The family would like to thank Sarah’s nieces and nephews, the Shiretown Nursing Home Staff and her friends there, her neighbours at Strathcona Place, and to all her friends who visited and called on a regular basis, thank-you.
