Sherry Marie Gillespie

RIVERTON – Sherry Marie Gillespie, 40, of Riverton, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family Wednesday, July 9th, 2008, at the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in Halifax, she was a daughter of Jack and Darlene (MacLeod) Spicer, Bedford. Sherry spent her earlier years in Lower Sackville. After graduating Sackville High she attended Maritime Business Academy and was employed at the Halifax Infirmary as a Medical Transcriptionist before moving to Riverton where she had resided for the past 13 years. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church. She enjoyed gardening. Sherry’s children and family were the most important part of her life. She will be remembered for being outgoing and friendly. She was a member of the Brain Tumour Support Group. She is survived by her husband, Ian; children: Callie Marie, Sarah Isabel, Bradley Ian and Brandon Douglas, all at home; sisters: Shauna (Stephen) Wood, Chicago, USA; Andrea (Kurt) Lanigan, Dartmouth; nephews: Andrew, Jarrett, Tyler, Mitchell and Aiden; father and mother-in-law, Art and Audrey Gillespie, Chance Harbour; sister-in-law, Stephanie Gillespie, Lower Sackville; brother-in-law, Paul Gillespie, Chance Harbour; a number of aunts, uncles and cousins. She was predeceased by her maternal grandparents, Freeman and Willena MacLeod; paternal grandparents, Reg and Marie Spicer. The family will receive visitors from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Saturday in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, 256 King St., New Glasgow. Funeral mass will be held 3 p.m. Sunday from Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, Stellarton, with Father Peter MacDonald officiating. Burial will be in the Parish Cemetery. Family flowers only please. Donations in memory of Sherry may be made to the Palliative Care Society of the Aberdeen Hospital. The family would like to thank Dr. Farrell, the Palliative Care Nurses and volunteers at the Unit for their care and concern for Sherry and her family, and Father Peter MacDonald for all of his support.
