BANKS, CLEMENT LUTHER The death of Clement Banks of Lincoln, NB occurred Saturday June 18th, 2005 at the Oromocto Public Hospital. Born June 6th, 1907 in Greenfield, NB, he was the son of the late Edward and Elizabeth (Smith) Banks. Clem was the last surviving of ten siblings. Until 1945, Clem operated the family farm in Burton. The family then moved to Saint John, where he managed a farm for Mr. Leo Collins. Clem worked for NBLC in Oromocto from 1958 until he retired in 1974. He continued his love of farming for several more years at Guthrie's and McDougall's Farms of Lincoln. He also teamed horses at George Upshall's Sleigh Rides until his late eighties. Clem was a long time member of St. John's Anglican Church in Oromocto, where he served as vestry member, warden and honorary warden. A kid at heart, he was a natural grandparent to all. He was the neighborhood kid magnet. He wore out many decks of cards playing Auction 45s. To him, 45s was not just a game. It was a means by which he gathered family and friends around the kitchen table, where he could "see" them. Survived by his wife of 74 years, Elsie Viola Banks (Hoben); daughters, Barbara Elizabeth Byers (George), Ann Marie Banks, Marilyn Audrey Galbraith (Lawrence), Gail Ellen LeGresley (Ernie MacGillivray); son, Wendell Donald Banks (Linda), as well as many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Predeceased by his son Clement Maynard Banks. Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 21st, 2005 from 7-9 pm at Oromocto Select Community Funeral Home. His funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 22nd, 2005 at 1 pm from Oromocto Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be in St. John's Anglican Cemetery.
