McCaw, Dr. John William September 24, 1923 - March 30, 2008 On March 30, 2008, Dr. John McCaw (formerly of Craik, SK) passed away in Edmonton, AB. John trained as a Physician and Surgeon in Trinity College, Dublin. After traveling and living in Dublin, New Guinea and Australia, John and Edie arrived to set up practice in Craik in 1954, where John remained the community doctor for almost 40 years. John has lived for the past four years in Edmonton with daughter Maureen, spending considerable time with Dermot and his family. Live-in caregiver Janny Dulku provided nurturing, caring and friendship, always with a sense of humor, allowing John to maintain an independent lifestyle. John suffered a stroke on March 23rd and died on Sunday, March 30th. John is survived by sister Peggy MacKay, Northern Ireland, son Brian (Joane) and grandson Patric, daughter Maureen (Sandy) and grandson Daniel, son Dermot (Carmela) and grandsons Alexander and Delainey, nephews Alan, David, Samuel and William and nieces Dorothy, Hazel, Edith and Elizabeth, as well as a number of additional relatives in Ireland and an abundance of friends and former patients. John was predeceased in 2004 by wife of 44 years, Edith and by infant son Douglas. In lieu of other tributes, donations may be made to the Salvation Army or the Capital Care Foundation, Norwood, 500, 9925 109 St., Edmonton, AB T5K 2J8. A Celebration of John's Life will be held at the Craik Legion Hall on May 3, 2008. The event will start at 4 p.m. with a program at 4:30 pm.
