OUELLETTE, RAYMOND Raymond Ouellette, 55, Parkland Drive, Halifax, born January 22, 1950 in Saint Jean-surRichelieu, Que., died suddenly on July 15, 2005, in Priest Pond, P.E.I. Raymond was a son of Jeannine Hamel Ouellette and the late Paul-Emile Ouellette, Saint Jean-sur-Richelieu, Que. Raised in Montreal, Raymond joined the Canadian military at a young age, retiring after 33 years as an officer with the Royal Canadian Artillery. Raymond was proud of his accomplishments in his career, which took him on several postings outside of Canada. Tours in Germany, Cypress, Egypt, Western Sahara and Bosnia, won him the NATO Special Service Medal, the Canadian Peacekeeping Medal, the UN Force in Cypress Medal, the UN Mission for the Referendum in the Western Sahara Medal for two tours, the NATO Medal for the Former Yugoslavia, the Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal and the Canadian Forces Decoration II Medal. Raymond was a member of the Calais Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion. Just as many hours were spent finding that perfect worm as finding a fish, any fish. Few were caught and even fewer eaten. Sitting on the bank overlooking Priest Pond Beach was a favourite time and the Gulf of St. Lawrence was affectionately known as the "big screen TV". Riding his Harley was playtime for Raymond and the annual "brothers' road trip" was being planned at the time of his death. Besides his mother, Raymond is survived by his wife, Dorothy Keays; son, Christopher, Brighton, England; sisters, Helene Ouellette, Montreal, Que.; Danielle (Jim) Brown, Vancouver, B.C.; brothers, Laurent and Francis (Sylvie), Montreal, Que.; nieces and nephews. His beloved Wheaten Terrier, Coadie, was with him when he died. Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 20, from 7-9 p.m. in Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Rd., Halifax. Memorial service will be Thursday, July 21, at 10 a.m. in St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church, 6903 Mumford Rd., Halifax. Private burial will take place at a later date.
