James Robert Noble The family of James Robert Noble regretfully announces his passing on April 18, 2008. Jim was born August 11, 1925, the eldest of four children, to James and Margaret (Peggy) Noble of Mitchellton, SK. He was predeceased by his wife Vera; his parents; his brothers Stewart and John Noble as well as his brother-in-law Garnet Deagle. James is survived by his son Ken (Ann); daughter Bonnie; his special friend Elsie McClelland; grandchildren Graham, Ryan, and Robert Noble and Jeanne and Brian Bernier. Jim was also acting grandfather to Drew and Jessica, children of Darren and Lyanne McClelland. He will also be remembered by his sister Margaret Deagle of Moose Jaw; her children Lance (Pat), Wanda (Mike), Wade (Carol) and David; his sisters-in-law Donalda and Joyce Noble of Moose Jaw, and their children Randy of Vancouver, Susan (Philip Griffith), Gary (Antoinette) and Joan (Mark Fedak). Jim grew up on the family farm in Mitchellton where he enjoyed his family, farming and especially the sports days around the farming area. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force at the age of 19. He was a tail gunner with the Burma Bombers until 1945 when he returned home. He married Vera Hendry in 1948 and together they continued to farm at Mitchellton where as a mixed farmer he won many awards for his egg production skills. Jim left farming in 1956 when he joined Sask Power and continued to be employed by Sask Power until his retirement. During his lifetime he enjoyed a wide range of pastimes. Jim and Vera traveled to many countries such as China, Australia, Britain, Hawaii, Holland and many others. He particularly enjoyed photographing his travels. During his younger years Jim was a semi pro baseball player and later won many awards for his bowling skills. He was a loyal and active member of Broadway United Church and subsequently Carmichael United Church for 23 years. Jim was the president of the Anavets on two occasions and a Governor on the Credit Union Board for many years. He belonged to the Legion in both Fort Qu'Appelle and Mossbank. As a volunteer he spent the past fourteen years working on the War Memorial Committee. His efforts contributed to two memorials being completed to honour the veterans of World War I and II as well as those that served in the Korean War. Jim was particularly proud of his work on the Committee and the monuments that stand in Wascana Park. He donated many items of memorabilia to the War Museum in Regina. For the last fourteen years of his life, Jim enjoyed the companionship of his dear friend Elsie. During that time they shared a life in Regina as well as buying and renovating a cottage at Echo Lake. Jim dearly enjoyed the company of his grandchildren and took pride in their accomplishments. He found great pleasure in a rousing game of cards at family gatherings and was an avid crib player. Leisure time was also filled with fishing trips, camping and games of checkers. The family would like to thank Dr. Bester, Dr. Meiers, Dan Brian, Reverend Ron Sutton and the staff of Ward 6A and the ICU of the Regina General Hospital. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held at Regina Funeral Home, Hwy #1 East, Regina, SK on Saturday, April 26, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service. Following the interment lunch will be served. Flowers are gratefully declined.
