JOSEPH CYRIL "CY" McMANUS

McMANUS, JOSEPH CYRIL "CY" December 27, 1912 -December 17, 2005 of Cedarstone Enhanced Care, Truro and formerly of 29 Victoria Street passed away peacefully at Cedarstone Enhanced Care in his 93rd year. Born in Fredericton, he was a son of the late John and Catherine (Logue) McManus. He was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Veronica (Elliott) on February 27, 2005; sons, John and Brian; sisters, Carmel, Mary, Catherine and Martina McManus, Alexa Barry; twin brothers, Joseph and John in infancy. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He is survived by his children, Kathleen Newell, Truro; Elinor McManus, Vancouver; Patrick, Halifax; grandchildren, Ryan and Amanda McNutt, Truro; several nieces and nephews. He was employed with the CNR Police Dept. for 37 years in Moncton, Halifax and retired in Truro as the Special Agent where he lived for 47 years. Cy was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, Truro. He was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather as well as a well known highly respected man in every community he lived. Cy was a graduate of St. Joseph's College (BA) and St. Thomas University (B of Commerce). He was a talented and well known goalie at St. Joseph's College and a talented artist who enjoyed woodworking and upholstery. Cy was a very well read man, religion, politics and literature. He was a true gentleman and a friend to all and lived life to its fullest. His deep catholic faith was the foundation of his life and he was a strong Irish man. God bless you Dad! We will miss you as a loving husband, father and grandfather. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. with prayers at 8:00 p.m. in the Immaculate Conception Church Chapel, Truro; funeral mass on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m., in the Immaculate Conception Church, Truro. Interment at a later date in Robie Street Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimers Society, the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia, the Canadian Cancer Society or the Nova Scotia Lung Association.
