GREGG, NAN VERTA The death of Nan Verta Gregg of Fredericton, NB occurred at York Manor Nursing Home on Saturday, February 18th, 2006. Born on October 11th, 1914 she was the daughter of the late Rev. John Spicer and Vesta Eva (Kilburn) Gregg. Nan was the last surviving member of her immediate family. After serving with the Royal Canadian Navy for 2 years, Nan went on to become the Research Librarian at the University of New Brunswick until her retirement. Having gained the respect of many of the Professors at UNB, a reading room has been named in her honor. Nan was an avid art collector. She was a good friend of Lord Beaverbrook and had the distinction of selecting many paintings for the Lord Beaverbrook Art Gallery at the time it first opened. The Nan Gregg art collection may still be viewed at the gallery today. Nan supported many causes during her lifetime some of which have been, the Conservation Council, World Vision Fredericton, Fredericton Community Kitchen, Foster Parents Plan, a supportive member of the Kindness club as well as an avid supporter of the foreign exchange students programs providing lodging during their school term. Survived by her special friend, Sarah McAdam of Fredericton, NB. Visitation will be held at McAdam's Select Community Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 21st, 2006 from 2-4 pm. Funeral service will take place on Wednesday, February 22nd, 2006 at 2:00 pm from J. A. McAdam Memorial Chapel with Father Monte Peters officiating. Burial will take place in the spring.
