KEAN, REV. J. HEBER Rev. J. Heber Kean passed away April 6, 2006 at York Manor Nursing Home in Fredericton, NB after a period of failing health. He is survived by his wife, Marie (Coffin) Kean, and children Mary (Darrell) Burke of Dartmouth NS, Carol Kean of Dartmouth NS, Ross (Rita) Kean of Fredericton, Patricia (Paul Cassells) Kean of Vancouver BC, and David (Suzan Ozdogon) Kean of Fredericton, nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren. A daughter, Susan, predeceased him, as well as two brothers, David and Donald. Heber was born in Bathurst in 1926 to the late David and Muriel (Hodnett) Kean. His early education was in local schools and Mount Allison Academy. Further studies were at Mount Allison University, St. Andrews College in Saskatoon, and Pine Hill Divinity Hall. He was ordained by the Maritime Conference of the United Church in 1956. Heber served student pastoral charges in Saskatchewan and after ordination was called to O'Leary, PEI. Subsequently, he served in Minto, NB and Truro, NS. In 1966, Heber moved to Sackville, NB to be the editor of The United Churchman and in 1973, he was appointed to the position of Director of Communications for the Maritime Conference. Heber was well known to United Church members in the Maritimes as his duties took him to all presbyteries and most churches. In addition, he chaired many Conference and General Council committees and volunteered for numerous community organizations. A memorial service will be held at Wilmot United Church in Fredericton at 3:00 PM on Sunday, April 9, 2006 with a reception to follow at the church. If desired, donations may be given to the Fredericton Food Bank, Transition House or any charity in his memory in lieu of flowers. The family wishes to express particular thanks to the staff of the Atrium of York Manor for the loving care they provided Heber.
