William George Nelson March 2,1926 - July 18,2008 The family of Bill Nelson is sad to announce his passing at Moose Jaw, SK. after a brief battle with cancer. He was born and raised on the family farm at Stalwart, SK. and attended Davenport School. As a young man he worked for local farmers, and worked winters at a lumber camp in Northern Saskatchewan and also for Ontario Hydro. In 1959, he married Verna Shaw of Brandon and settled on the home quarter where they raised their family and continued to farm until their retirement to Moose Jaw in 1992. Bill loved farming, socializing with friends and attending dances throughout the area. His family was very important to him and he was known as a strong and caring person to all who knew him. Bill was predeceased by his parents William Sr. and Martha. He leaves to mourn his wife of 48 years, Verna; son Howard (Cara) Nelson of Moose Jaw; daughter Shirley (Dean) Rae of Regina; grandchildren Max Nelson, Carter and Katrina Rae; brothers John (Grace) Nelson of Stalwart and Robert (Dolores) Nelson of Regina as well as several nieces and nephews. The Funeral Service will be held at the Liberty Hall, Liberty, SK. on Wednesday, July 23 at 2:00 pm. Reverend David Moore will officiate. Interment will follow at the Liberty Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Extendicare Moose Jaw, Special Needs Unit, 1151 Coteau Street West, Moose Jaw, S6H 5G5.
