SHERWOOD OWEN BILLINGS
BILLINGS, SHERWOOD OWEN Sherwood Owen Billings of Clearview Ave., passed away on May 15, 2006, surrounded by his family at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Bathurst, New Brunswick on August 4, 1942. He was the oldest son of the late Elmer and Evelyn (Ingraham) Billings. Sherwood is survived by his wife of 41 years, Mary (LaPointe) as well as a daughter Patty and her husband Bill Cameron of Keswick Ridge and Shawn and his wife Karen (Dunlap) of Ottawa; as well as a special grandchild Michaela Eileen Cameron. He is also survived by two sisters, Barbara Billings of Nashwaaksis and Sandra Smith (Dave) of Calgary; one brother, Brian Billings (Dorothy) of Nashwaaksis; as well as his extended family including nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and brothers and sisters-in-law. Sherwood served 33 years in the Canadian Air Force in various parts of Canada and Germany. After retirement in 1995 he joined the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires He was an active member in the Father Bernard F. McMahon Council of the Knights of Columbus at Saint Theresa's Church; serving in various positions most recently as Grand Knight. Sherwood enjoyed spending time on the golf course at the Riverbend Golf Club. Sherwood was an avid wood worker, and he also enjoyed being outdoors building his new rose garden. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive on Tuesday from 7 to 9 pm and again on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, May 18, 2006 at 11 am from St. Theresa's Church with Father John Jennings officiating. Interment will take place at Central Hainesville Cemetery, Hainesville, New Brunswick. For those who wish, remembrances made to the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital Oncology Department or to the charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.
