Phyllis Anita (nee Copeman) Anita Snyder
Passed on: July 20th, 2008
Snyder, Phyllis Anita (nee Copeman) Anita passed away on Sunday, July 20, 2008 after her second courageous battle with cancer. She was born, raised, educated and married in Moose Jaw where she developed many lifelong friendships. Relocation to Regina in 1972 created an opportunity to further expand her circle of friends. Gordon Snyder first laid eyes on Anita Copeman as she worked at Bloss Jewelers. He was immediately struck by her good looks, warm smile and vivacious personality. He quickly asker her out on a date. Anita, however, was less sure about him and passed on the date citing the need to "wash her hair." He continued to ask her out and we presume she found his persistence amusing because they eventually had that first date. They were married in August of 1950 - a union that lasted more than 55 years until Gordon's passing in December of 2005. During the course of their marriage Gordon was involved in a wide range of activities: running the family farm, working as a locomotive engineer with CPR and representing Moose Jaw as one of the longest serving M.L.A.'s in Saskatchewan history. Throughout those hectic years Anita worked tirelessly raising two boys, served as an unofficial constituency assistant (as most political wives of that era did) and maintained an interest in the N.D.P Ladies Association and the United Church Women. Anita and Gordon's "Golden Years" were spent traveling through North and Central America, the Caribbean, Europe, Fiji, New Zealand and Australia. A source of great happiness for Anita were her grandchildren, whom she loved spending time with. Anita also led a very active social life and enjoyed spending time (shopping, lunch dates, etc.) with her close friends. She was also a very proud "parent" of her tea-cup poodle - T.C. Anita will be remembered as a very generous woman who could be relied on in a moment's notice, loving mother, grandmother, a tremendous cook, baker and hostess, a tireless shopper, an avid reader, gardener and enthusiastic follower of public affairs. She was predeceased by her husband Gordon Snyder; her parents Roy and Rosaline Copeman and an infant brother Roy Jr. Left to cherish her memory are her two sons Randy (Claire) and their children Ryley and Angela (Clint); and Craig (Kara) and their children Renae and Claire. She also leaves to mourn her sister Bernice (Ed) McDonald and many friends that were dear to her heart. In accordance with Anita's wishes a private family graveside service was held at Rosedale Cemetery in Moose Jaw, SK. Arrangements were entrusted to Regina Funeral Home (306) 789-8850.
