MERRILL, DELL RAYMOND The passing of Dell Raymond Merrill of Scotch Settlement, NB, husband of Frances (MacDonald) Merrill occurred on October 5, 2006 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital, Fredericton, NB. Born on March 6, 1926 in Stanley, NB, he was a son of the late Raymond and Maude (Porter) Merrill. Dell served with the Canadian Armed Forces during the Second World War on Canadian Soil. He was a Lineotype Operator by trade with the Daily Gleaner and numerous other papers throughout New Brunswick and Ontario, he also worked Security with Shell Oil. Dell was affiliated with the Nackawic Wesleyan Church. His hobbies were the outdoors, gardening, especially working with horses in the woods. He enjoyed golfing as well as coaching hockey: He was an avid Toronto Maple Leafs fan. Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Richard Merrill (Sandy) of Mississauga, ON and Shawney Merrill of Fredericton, NB; two daughters, Sharon (Alden) Clark of Miramichi, NB and Tanya McCrea (David) of Sussex, NB; one step-daughter, Faye Guthrie and friend Ryan McLeod of Lake Utopia; seven grandchildren and two step-grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; three sisters, Norma Toon (Roy) of Fredericton, Velma Hay of Williamsburg, NB and Joan Jones of Sackville, NS; two brothers, Floyd Merrill (Joyce) of Langley, BC and Neill Merrill (Elizabeth) of Fredericton; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by one daughter, Valerie; one step son, Gregory Hughes and one brother, Burt. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton on Saturday evening from 7 to 9 pm. The Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, October 8, 2006 at 2 pm from the York Funeral Home's T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel, Fredericton, NB with Rev. Carl Brewer officiating. Interment will follow in the Scotch Settlement Cemetery.
