DR. LUIS Z. MAGTIBAY
MAGTIBAY, DR. LUIS Z. The death of Dr. Luis Z. Magtibay of Fredericton, NB occurred at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on Tuesday, January 2nd, 2007. Born in Rizal Laguna, Philippines on August 19th, 1930, he was the son of the late Bartolome and Marcela (Zuasola) Rivera. Dr. Magtibay started his studies at Rizal Elementary School in Rizal Laguna and attended different high schools because of the outbreak of war. He graduated from high school at the University of the East. He continued his education, studying medicine at the University of Santo Tomas, graduating in 1955. In 1956 he obtained a medical placement for his internship in the Somerset Hospital, New Jersey. From there he continued his studies in different hospitals and universities in the United States: Ohio State University Hospital in Pathology, Pennsylvania State University, George Washington University, Philadelphia General Hospital and Buffalo General Hospital (department of pathology). After ten years, he went back home to the Philippines and worked in San Pablo City Hospital for two years and then left for Canada. He worked for three years in Toronto and then moved to Fredericton where he worked as a pathologist at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital, Region 3 until his retirement in December 2000. He stayed here for forty years, the place he loved so much. Dr. Magtibay also enjoyed and was very active with Tae Kwon Do and had achieved his black belt. He is survived by his brothers and sisters, Fely Vista, a teacher from Long Beach, California, Brigido Magtibay, an engineer from Rizal Laguna, Philippines, Leonieda Arrieta, a pharmacist from Rizal Laguna, Philippines, Pablita Fernandez, a dentist from Long Beach, California and Mike Magtibay, an engineer from Toronto, Ontario as well as several nieces and nephews. Visitation will take place at McAdam's Select Community Funeral Home on Friday, January 5th, 2007 from 2-5 pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Dunstan's Catholic Church on Saturday, January 6th, 2007 at 12:00 noon. Rev. Gerald White officiating. He will be flown to his hometown, Rizal Laguna in the Philippines where interment will take place.
