BASTIN, RACHEL M. The death occurred peacefully on Saturday February 24, 2007 of Rachel M. Bastin of Fredericton, wife of the late Vernon C. Bastin. Born in Saint John on February 1, 1912, she was the only child of the late Walter T. and Estella (Flower) McBay and was a graduate of the Provincial Normal School in the class of 1930. Her faith and her family were central in Rae's life. She was a constant source of love and strength for the several generations of her immediate and extended family whose lives she touched. Rae and Vern lived in Fredericton and Edmundston; over the years, she was active in the life and work of Brunswick St. Baptist Church in Fredericton and St. Paul's United Church in Edmundston, and in the IODE and King's Daughters. Surviving are her daughter, Mary Bastin; and son, George (Elizabeth) Bastin of Fredericton; her grandson, Geoff (Tiffany) Bastin of Fredericton; her granddaughter, Martha (John) McClelland of Thunder Bay, Ontario; and her four great-granddaughters, Alia and Annika Bastin and Sarah and Hannah McClelland. Following cremation, a memorial service will be held in the Chapel at McAdam's Select Community Funeral Home, 160 York St., Fredericton on Tuesday, February 27th, 2007 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Ralph Irving officiating. A reception will take place in the adjoining room immediately following the service.
