Martha Shigeko (nee Mikado) Murakami

Martha Shigeko Murakami (nee Mikado) peacefully, in hospital, on Tuesday, October 14, 2008, in her 90th year. Born in Salt Spring Island, BC and a long-time resident of Moose Jaw (owner of Martha's Coffee Bar for 33 years). Predeceased by her parents Tsutayo and Masukichi; sisters Masayo and Kuniko and brother Mark. Also predeceased by her husband Philip, sons Donald and Steve and great-granddaughter Isabella Grace Murakami. Survived by son John (Pauline), Ottawa, daughter Janet Beecham of Toronto. Much loved by grandchildren Sarah Taylor (Scott), Jennifer Murakami (Joe Cacciotti) of Ottawa, James Murakami (Ana) and Amanda Beecham, of Toronto and nine great-grandchildren. Also survived by sister Mary Nagata (John), London, ON; brothers Doug Mikado (Susie) and Bob Mikado (Sue) of Magrath, AB, Sam Mikado (June) of Lethbridge, AB; brother-in-law George Murakami (Mary), Coaldale, AB as well as several nieces, nephews and families. Cremation has taken place. Interment of ashes at a later date in Moose Jaw. A Memorial Service will be held at the West Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 150 Woodroffe Avenue on Monday, October 20, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. Thanks to the staff of The Bentley Retirement Home, Moose Jaw and Stonehaven Manor, Kanata, for their care while Martha was in residence.
