DOMINIE, CYRIL WARD,S/SGT. RETIRED, REGIMENTAL #21774. Passed away in Moncton, NB on Sunday, August 12, 2007, after a courageous battle with cancer. Survived by his daughters Susan (Ken) Spenceley, Charlottetown, PEI and Laura (Jerred) Brown, Hagerstown, Maryland USA, sister Kathleen (Harold) Pike of Dartmouth, NS. He is also survived by his special friend, Barb Chambers who selflessly cared for Dad not only in the early days of his sickness at home, but even after he was admitted to the hospital for the last time, sitting with him for countless hours. Cyril protected the highways of New Brunswick and Newfoundland throughout his fulfilling career as a proud member of the RCMP during his postings in New Brunswick at Bathurst, Moncton, Hampton, St. George, Sackville, Fredericton and in Newfoundland at Holyrood and St. John's before retiring after 34 ½ years of service in 1995. Cyril was a true highway patrolman throughout his career and was a pioneer in the implementation of the Breathalyzer instrument, roadside screening devices and accident reconstruction programs in the mid 1960's. Throughout his service he maintained a strong presence on the highways he policed and lead by example. Upon his retirement he had attained the rank of Staff Sergeant and was the Traffic Services Supervisor for the Province of Newfoundland. Besides woodworking and always having a project on the go, he devoted many hours volunteering in the community of Holyrood in activities such as the Children's Santa Claus Parade and the Crystal Carnival Winterfest. He was given the honor of Citizen of the Year by the town of Holyrood in 1992 for these and many other efforts and initiatives. Upon his retirement from the Force and subsequent return to Moncton in 2001 he became involved in the RCMP Veteran's Association and was serving as Vice-President until June 2007. Although his career was always foremost in his mind, when he became a Grandfather he took the role seriously and now leaves behind many treasured memories for Sarah and Hannah Spenceley, and Jack, Gabriella, and Olivia Brown.
