SCOTT MACPHERSON WEBSTER

WEBSTER, SCOTT MACPHERSON It is with sadness that the family of Scott MacPherson Webster announces his passing on Oct. 23, 2007. Scott is survived by his wife Mary Lee Watson (Leila), daughter Heidi, son and daughter-in-law Scott (SM) and Paulette Poirier and their son Arlynn. He is also survived by Leila's children Randy (Jamie Poole) and Billie Dines, as well as his sister Jackie Webster and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his first wife, Anna (Greene) and his brother Montclair. Scott was born in Fredericton, the son of Frank Webster and Lillian MacPherson. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War where, among other things, he was editor of the Armed Forces newspaper. When he returned home, he continued his career as a writer and editor and worked for years at The Daily Gleaner and for several other Atlantic Canada publications, including the Telegraph Journal and the Moncton Times & Transcript. When he retired, he was senior writer at NB Power. He was also a founding member of the Fredericton and Moncton press clubs. Following his retirement, Scott was a familiar figure around the Centennial Building where he worked as a Corps Commissionaire. Scott was a loving father, faithful husband and much-loved uncle and grandfather. He took great joy in his own children and grandson Arlynn, as well as he and Leila's grandchildren River & Jonny. He will also be greatly missed by Leila's parents Mary and Jack Kerstens of Doaktown. Scott was a gentle and artistic man with a great sense of humour and dry wit. He was quick to laugh and anyone who knew him had a story about a practical joke played by him or on him. He loved to read and enjoyed a good mystery novel. Adept at puzzles and games, he was an avid Scrabble, chess and Duplicate Bridge player. He was youthful, playful and maintained his sense of humour until the day he died. His many friends and loved ones will remember the twinkle in his eyes and his wonderful laugh for many years to come. He lived most of his life in Fredericton, but his newspaper career took him to Moncton, Saint John and Amherst. Not long ago, he and Leila moved to Doaktown where he spent his last years as he lived his life, content, happy and surrounded by family, friends and his many pets including Zeke & Sydney the dogs, Bugsy the rabbit, Randy the cat and his two cockatiels, Tinker and Bell. Resting at Bishop's Funeral Home, 540 Woodstock Road, Fredericton with visitation Wednesday 2-4 & 7-9 pm and Thursday 3:30-5:00 & 7:00-9:00 pm. The funeral service will be held at Bishop's Funeral Home on Friday, October 26, 2007 at 1:00 pm with David Ray officiating. Interment will be held at the Boiestown United Church Cemetery. The Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 4 will hold a tribute service at the funeral home on Thursday evening at 7pm. The family also wishes to announce that there will be a luncheon at Mary's Kitchen, Doaktown following the interment.
