Phyllis Jane (Force) Cowan
Born: November 28th, 1912
Passed on: November 14th, 2008
Phyllis Jane Cowan (Force), 95, passed away on November 14, 2008 at Moose Jaw Union Hospital. She will be lovingly remembered by her children Bill, Wendy, Mike and special granddaughter Melissa. She is predeceased by her husband William Henry Cowan, her son Burleigh S. Cowan of Winnipeg, daughter-in-law Elizabeth Cowan and sister Ruth Siebold of Spokane. She is survived by Bill Cowan of Vantage (Billy, Betty, Sandra, Cheryl, Patrick); Wendy (Brian) Carroll of Dalmeny (Leslie, Suzanne, Graeme); Mike (Grace) Cowan of Vantage (Melissa, Burleigh, Jessica); her sister Beryl Mitchell-Browne of Calgary and granddaughter Cathy Cowan of Calgary. Phyllis' parents homesteaded north of Vantage. Her birth certificate reads "NW, 35,10,1". She was born in a homestead shanty on November 28, 1912. A CNR doctor was called from the construction camp of the new railroad just being constructed. Phyllis was among the first white babies born in the district. The vitality of the new country and the lessons of the homestead never left her. She was a person of strength, enthusiasm, thrift, and courage all the days of her life. After a long and successful farming career, maintaining two households (the farm and Moose Jaw) Phyllis and William retired. In 1975 they built their dream house on Simcoe Street. After William's death in 1993, she lived on in the big house until 2003 when she moved to Mulberry Estates. The Cowan family thanks all those who shared friendship and support to our mother over the years. Her friendships all seemed to be life-long. We are forever grateful to a special staff member of Mulberry Estates whose cheerful and compassionate nature made each day a little brighter for our mother. Thank you, Robin. Funeral services will be held at W.J. Jones & Son Chapel on Saturday, November 22, 2008 at 1:00 pm. Linda Owens will officiate. Interment will follow at Rosedale Cemetery.
