ESSIE JOY (DALTON) HUDSON
HUDSON, ESSIE JOY (DALTON) Essie Joy (Dalton) Hudson, of Cascumpec, PE, passed away peacefully in her sleep at Western Hospital, Alberton, PE on December 7, 2007. Essie was born in West Devon, PE on November 27, 1920, the eldest daughter and one of 3 children born to Jessie (Collicut) and Alfred Dalton. In 1940 she married Jim Hudson and they had 3 children. Her family meant everything to her and they always came first. She lived her life to the fullest even to the end, as she courageously battled lung cancer during her last year. She so enjoyed the many friends and neighbours that came to visit. She loved to bake, cook and entertain. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren who couldn't wait to spend their summer vacations at Nanny and Grampy's making memories and learning skills to last them a lifetime. Mom loved people and enjoyed her work during the 25 years they lived in Fredericton, NB. She made countless friends of her many customers and co-workers at Levine's and Creaghan's Dept Stores. Mom was a talented seamstress, always creating new outfits for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. After returning to Cascumpec, Mom took up quilt making and gave most of them away to family and friends. Her grand- children all have one of Nanny's quilts. Her afghans and embroidery took prizes at the Prince County Exhibition in recent years. Besides this, she was an avid gardner and for many years had her own greenhouse. Loving mother to daughter, Gloria Hudson (Lockhart); 2 sons, Leigh (Sylvia Graham) Hudson, and Jim (Debbie Hill) Hudson, all of Fredericton, NB; 14 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren, who loved their Nanny dearly and each held a special place in Nanny's heart. Dear sister-in-law to Ted (Jean) Hudson, Vern (Tim) Hudson, Arthur (Lillian) Hudson, Jean Murphy, Leta (Gordon) Leard; several nieces and nephews, all of whom are like her own family. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brother Leigh Dalton, sister Lillie (Alfred) Palmer, and her husband James E. Hudson. Mom was much loved by all her family and will be forever missed. Funeral service was held Monday, December 10, at Alberton United Church, with interment following at Cascumpec United Church Cemetery.
