MIRIAM IRENE (LOVELY) R.N. MENZIES

MENZIES, MIRIAM IRENE (LOVELY) R.N. Born at Riverbank, N.B. on August 28, 1924 and passed away on February 7th 2008 at the DECH. She was the daughter of the late Frederick and Ella (Chase) Lovely and is the last surviving member of her family. Miriam was predeceased by her sisters, Pauline, (Harry) Fowler, Geraldine and brothers, Vaughan (Ester), Neil (Stella), Gordon (Ella), Lorne, Vernon, Perley and daughter-in-law, Debi (Allan). Miriam is survived by her loving husband, Laurie of nearly 60 years; children, Allan (Bridget) Menzies, Susan (Doug) Shippee and Cindy (Terry) Trask. Her grandchildren, Heather, Ian, Thomas and Lesleigh, great granddaughter, Ava and niece, Shirley (Carvel) Antworth. She attended Florenceville High School and upon graduation trained at the Victoria Public Hospital graduating as a registered nurse in 1946. In 1948 she married Laurie, the love of her life. Miriam practiced nursing for several years then joined the family business, A.R. Menzies & Sons Ltd. as their R.N. in 1965, retiring in 1987. Miriam was a charter member of the Capital Winter Club and became a competitive curler winning two provincial senior ladies titles. Many memorable summers were spent at the family cottage at Oromocto Lake. She also loved to play bridge- especially with her sister in law Wilma and nieces Jane and Melanie. Forty fives with her niece Shirley and husband Carvel was another favorite pastime that they played on a regular basis in later years. Visitation will be held at McAdam's Funeral Home on Sunday, February 10th, 2008 from 2:00pm - 4:00pm and 7:00pm - 9:00pm. At Miriam's request a private memorial service will be held the following day. Internment to follow at a later date at the Rural Cemetery Extension. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Stan Cassidy Centre for Rehabilitation or a charity of the donor's choice. www.mcadamsfh.com
