DARRELL ALBERT GREENE
GREENE, DARRELL ALBERT After a long and courageous battle with cancer, Darrell Albert Greene passed away peacefully on February 3, 2008 at the Upper River Valley Hospital in Waterville; with his wife and son at his side. Darrell was born on December 3, 1933 in Gregg Settlement. Darrell is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Nora (nee Kendell) and son, Dan. Darrell was predeceased by his parents, Albert and Blanche (nee Glen) and his brothers, Donald and Reginald. Darrell is also survived by sisters, Audrey (Amos) Jones and Ernestine Brown; brothers, Glen (Evelyn), David (Anne), and Gary (Linda); sisters-in-law, Dorothy and Gail; aunt Louie McAdam; as well as, many nieces, nephews and cousins. Upon graduation from Centreville Regional High School, Darrell worked at the Bank of Nova Scotia for three years before he began his career with the Canadian Armed Forces, where he worked for 32 years until his retirement in 1983. During his military career, he proudly served in many locations across Canada; as well as, abroad; most notably, in France. Upon retirement from the Armed Forces, Darrell moved back to his childhood hometown. At first, he spent time working summers for the village of Florenceville and assisted his brother, Donald with the annual potato harvest. Throughout his retirement years, he pursued his love of gardening, fishing and hunting. Darrell willingly and generously, devoted his time and effort to the community. He was an active member of the Centreville Legion and Elks for many years. He was also a Mason. Whatever the task, Darrell would accompany it with a song. A celebration of his life was held at the St. James Anglican Church in Centreville on February 7, 2008; officiated by the Reverend Douglas Painter. A Legion Memorial and visitation was held on February 6, 2008 at the Carleton Funeral Home in Jacksonville. Active pallbearers were; brothers, Glen, David and Gary; nephews, Rodney Greene and Darrell Greene; and brother-in-law, Alex Button. Honorary pallbearers were Andrew McConnell and Richard McConnell. Interment was in the St. Paul's United Cemetery in Centreville. A reception followed and was provided by the St. James Anglican Church Women's Group.
