LILLIES (PRICE) PORTER

PORTER, LILLIES (PRICE) Mrs. Lillies (Price) of Doaktown, NB passed away unexpectedly on March 17, 2008, at the Saint John Regional Hospital with her family by her side. Born in Oswestry North Wales, England in 1925, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Rose Price. Enlisting in the British Army during WW2, Lillies competed her basic training in North Hampton and was then sent to Rhye Wales, in August 1942, for training before being assigned to the Women's Auxiliary Territorial Service with the rank of Private, operating searchlights on the coast of England. Later in 1943, she was stationed in Camp Aldershot England, where she operated a telephone switchboard for the Transport Division of the Women's Auxiliary Territorial Service. It was while serving in the British Army during World War II, that Lillies met her first husband, Cpt. Alonzo (Lonnie) William Storey. She arrived in Canada as a war bride in November 1946. After Lonnie's death in 1975, Lillies married her second husband Gerald Porter, who predeceased her in 1986. Lillies was a member of Hillcrest Chapter #40 Order of the Eastern Star, Upper Miramichi Lions Club, as well as a dedicated member served as Secretary for 27 years as well as Past President and life time member of the Ladies Auxiliary, a devoted member of this auxiliary Dart Team, and an avid Bingo Player. She was also a member of St. Andrew's Anglican Church, Doaktown. A loving mother and grandmother, Lillies is survived by one son, Barry (Daphne) Storey; and daughters, Norma (Wendell) McCullough and Cathy (Gary) Betts; stepchildren, Jimmy (Valerie) Porter, Myles (Angela) Porter, Archie (Glenna) Porter, Anna (Robert) Morehouse; grandchildren, Shawn, Garry Jason, Shelly, Krista, Kim, Jason, Barry, Jeff, Richard, Chantelle, Jennifer, Meghan, Carla, and Amanda; seven great-grandchildren; six sisters living abroad; several step-grandchildren; as well as her great friend, Lorraine Storey; and the joy of her life, her beloved dog, Ginger. Besides husbands, Alonzo Storey and Gerald Porter, Lillies was predeceased by daughters, Rosemarie Amos and Deborah (Peter) Cosgrove; grandson, Laurie Betts; step-son, David Porter; step-granddaughter, Heather Porter; and wonderful friend, Orran (Jr.) Holmes. Vistitation will be held at Davidson's Funeral Home, 579 Main Street, Doaktown, Thursday from 6 to 9 and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The Funeral Service will be held at Our Lady of Annunciation Roman Catholic Church, 714 Main Street, Doaktown on Saturday, March 22, at 2:00 pm with Rev. Andrew Fraser officiating. Reception will follow at St. Andrew's Anglican Church, Doaktown. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Andrew's Anglican Church Building Fund or a charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.
