MCGRATTAN, MARTHA K. The unexpected death of Martha K. McGrattan of Fredericton, NB occurred at the Upper River Valley Hospital on Tuesday, April 1, 2008 as a result of a sudden fatal stroke. Born in Fredericton, NB, she was the daughter of the late Walter C. and Anna M. (Rice) Hodgson. Martha graduated as an RN from the Herbert Ready Memorial Hospital in Montreal in 1945 and worked there for a number of years before moving to St. George, NB. She then worked in various nursing roles for 41 years in Blacks Harbour, Saint John and Fredericton hospitals retiring in 1986 as Senior Clinical Nurse Manager of 3 East, DECH Medical Unit. She is survived by her daughter, Maureen McGrattan (Norbert Strahlendorff) of New Maryland, NB; her son, John W. McGrattan (Judy) of Fredericton, NB; her brother, Walter C. Hodgson Jr. of Fredericton, NB; sisters, Alice Miller of Schreiber, ON, Phyllis Picklyk (Peter) of Manotick, ON and Mary Atkinson of Fredericton, NB; three special grandchildren, Meghan, Alysha and Taylor McGrattan; as well as several nieces and nephews. Martha was predeceased by her parents; first husband, J. Frederick McGrattan; as well as her second husband, Gerald W. Kolding; and her sister, Gwen Brennan. Visitation will be held at McAdam's Select Community Funeral Home (458-9170) on Friday, April 4, 2008 from 7 to 9 pm and Saturday, April 5 from 1 to 3 pm. The funeral service and reception will be celebrated at the J. A. McAdam Memorial Chapel immediately following Saturday's visitation hours. Interment will take place at a later date in St. Mary the Virgin Cemetery, New Maryland.
