COAKLEY, CHARLES RUSSELL It is with great sadness that the family announces the death of Charles Russell Coakley of New Zion which occurred, surrounded by his family, on Sunday, April 13th, 2008 at the Queen's North Health Centre after a courageous battle with cancer. Charlie, the only son of the late Murray and Maude (Russell) Coakley, was born and raised in Douglas Harbour on the family farm, the land which now occupies the Grand Lake Provincial Park. He left the farm at the age of 16 to join the navy where he served in WW2 doing convoy duty in the North Atlantic. After returning from the war, Charlie was employed as a crane operator on various jobs and most recently on such projects as the Confederation Bridge and the Trans Canada Highway Bridge at Gagetown. He was a past president of the Royal Canadian Legion, Minto, a faithful member and a past warden of St. Michael and All Angels Anglican Church. Charlie leaves to mourn his loving wife, June (Murphy) Coakley; his 4 sons, Richard (Brenda) of Hardwood Ridge, Robert of New Zion, Peter (Ava) of Minto and Jeffrey of Riverview; his 6 grandchildren, Mark (Mandy), Shaun, Amanda, Brandon, Tristen, Austin; and his great grandchildren, Emma and Leah. Resting at the Minto Funeral Home (327-3490) where the family will receive visitors on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm. Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, April 17th, 2008 at St. Michael and All Angels Anglican Church with Rev. P. Pain officiating. Interment will take place in the adjoining church cemetery at a later date. For those who wish, donations made to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family. www.mintofh.com
