BESSIE CORA HOWLAND
HOWLAND, BESSIE CORA The passing of Bessie Cora (Embleton) Howland, of Fredericton, wife of Joseph Howland, occurred on Saturday, May 17, 2008, at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on Dec. 4, 1919, in Bear Island, N.B., she was a daughter of the late G. Selby and Fannie M. (Perley) Embleton. A member of the Mactaquac Baptist Church for over 60 years, Bessie taught Sunday School, was the Junior Mission Band Leader, Pioneer Girls Coordinator, member and president of Helena Blackadar W.M.S and a member of the Ridgeview Seniors. After moving to Fredericton in 2003, she attended the Nashwaaksis Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Keen Seniors of NBC and the Charles and Fran Harvey WMS. She will be keenly missed by her many friends and neighbors in Mactaquac and at 25 McKnight St. She was a wonderful wife and mother who delighted in family gatherings. She loved reading, writing, genealogy, quilting, sewing, cooking and bowling. She taught her children and grandchildren to knit, crochet, embroider along with many other life skills. She knew how to fix anything. In addition to her husband, Bessie is survived by two sons, Robert Howland of Fredericton and Charles (Sandra) Howland of Mactaquac; three daughters, Anne (Gerry) Earle and Sharon (Dale) Hamilton of Mactaquac, and Lisa (Chad) Davison of Monroe, Washington; 14 grandchildren, Leigh Ann Brewer and Chris Howland; David and Julia Howland; Jay, Jeffrey and Andrea Earle; Timothy Clark, Janice Arnold, Jennifer Clark and Robin Clark; Erin and Laura Hamilton; and Ariana Davison; 10 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Gordon (Roberta) Embleton and Perley (Bobbie) Embleton both of Fredericton; son-in-law Donald Clark of Keswick Ridge; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Bessie was predeceased by her daughter, Nancy Clark; two brothers, Ronald (Mary) Embleton and Russell (Myrtle) Embleton; six half brothers and two half sisters. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, on Monday, May 19, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Service will take place at Mactaquac Baptist Church on Tuesday, May 20, 2008, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Murray MacDonald, Rev. Roger Urquart and Rev. Bill Randall. A private interment will follow.
