CATHERINE DARRICADES

DARRICADES, CATHERINE (December 4, 1910 - May 9, 2008) In Vancouver BC, Canada, Catherine Visart Darricades (née Mullin). Catherine (Kay) was born in Saint John, New Brunswick. She became a registered nurse, graduating from Christ Hospital, Jersey City, New Jersey in 1931. Kay went to work in Chile where she met her husband, Dr. Alfonso (Francis) Darricades. They married in 1936 and lived in Chile for the greater part of three decades, and it was there also that their three daughters were born and raised: Constance (Tonton) Baumgartner, Irene (Renee) Cox, and Jeanne (Gigi) Darricades. Upon his retirement, Francis moved with Kay to San Jose, California to be closer to their children and grandchildren who by then were living in North America. Kay was predeceased by her husband in 1994 and later by her great-grandson, Daniel Sproule. Besides her daughters, Kay leaves her sons-in-law Edwin (Ed) Baumgartner, Alexander (Sandy) Cox and Mike Gibson, as well as grandchildren, Holly, Frances, and Scott (Baumgartner) in California; and Bill Cox and Catherine Lambert in Vancouver. Her Canadian great-grandchildren are: Riley, Courtney and Reid Cox; and Alexandra, Kiara and Wyatt Lambert. Her American great-grandchildren are: Jake and Maggie Sproule; Drew, Brett and Taylor Kollmann; and Elsie and Ashley Baumgartner. Kay was a kind and loving woman who will be missed, but her family is grateful to have had her for such a long and happy time. Many thanks to the staff at St. Vincent-Langara, to Dr. Sheldon Howard, and last but not least, to Mercy Fabian.
