EGERS, DONALD OTIS The home going of Donald Otis Egers of Hardwood Ridge, NB, occurred on Friday, June 13th, 2008 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital in Fredericton. Born in Linton, NB, he was the husband of the late Norma (Boylen) Egers and the son of the late John T. and Esther (Mowatt) Egers. Donald is survived by three daughters, Gayle Egers of Hardwood Ridge, Sharon (Stephen) Hiltz of New Zion, and Donalda (Tom) Cole of Hardwood Ridge; three brothers, Max (Verna) of Moncton, Bennett (Lucy) of Langley, BC, and Carl (Catherine) of Hardwood Ridge; one sister, Carolyn "Ted" of Niagara Falls, ON; one grandson, Curtis; four granddaughters, Ava, Catherine, Sara, and Cailey; several nieces, nephews, and cousins, and his family thanks his homecare worker Barbara Walsh. In addition to his parents and his wife, Norma, he was predeceased by brothers, Russell, Willard, and Weldon; and sisters Irene Smallwood and Alleyne MacPherson. Don was a World War II veteran having served in Europe with the Army Service Corp. After he returned from overseas he worked many jobs in Ontario including the St. Lawrence Seaway Project. In 1961, he moved back to Hardwood Ridge, New Brunswick with his family. Here he worked in the coalfields as a dragline operator and a foreman. Don was also a hobby farmer with a great love for horses. He had been a member of the Newcastle Bridge United Baptist Church/United Baptist Church of Minto for 43 years serving in many areas including deacon, Assist. Sunday School Supt., trustee, choir, and cemetery committee. Don left a great legacy of being faithful, jolly, and consistent. The family will receive visitors at the Minto Funeral Home (327-3490) on Monday June 16th from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The Royal Canadian Legion will conduct a tribute service at 7 PM. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday June 18th at the United Baptist Church of Minto with the Rev. Phil Styles officiating. Interment will take place in the Newcastle Bridge Baptist Cemetery immediately following the service. A reception will be held at the church hall following the interment.
