BET (ELIZABETH) VENART
VENART, BET (ELIZABETH) Bet (Elizabeth) Venart, poet, author and farmer, from breast cancer July 9, 2008 at Culcreuch Farm near Elgin, NB; born August 25, 1937 Halifax, NS, Mary Alice MacDougal of Port Greville, NS; later adopted Mary Elizabeth Whalen by 'Mike' and Jim of Springhill, N.S. Wife to Jim and mother to Joanne, Catherine, Jennifer, Tara (deceased), Michael, Sarah, Madelaine and Emily; grandmother to Catherine and Alec Venart-Allan, Taya Venart-Johnson, Samuel Venart-Wood, and Olive Venart-Robitaille. After training at Halifax General Hospital, graduated from Mt. Allison University and taught English in Temiskaming, QC, where she met and married Jim. They moved to Scotland, spending four years in Fintry where her first three children were born. She then lived nine years in Calgary, AB before she and her family returned to the Maritimes-first Fredericton and later the farm in Albert County, just across the Bay of Fundy from home. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Donations, in lieu of flowers, to Amnesty International, Oxfam, or Doctors Without Borders care of Armstrong's Funeral Home, Petitcodiac, NB.
