BURTON DIXON COLTER

COLTER, BURTON DIXON Burton Dixon Colter passed away peacefully at Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on Thursday, July 10, 2008 at the age of 85. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Patricia Colter (nee Carr) in 2002 and his eldest son, David in 2005. He is survived by his sons, George (Helen), Lee (Wendy); his daughter, Claudia (Derek); and by David's wife, Elaine. He was the proud grandfather to 15 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Burton was the son of the late Ashley A. Colter who founded Diamond Construction and Ashley Colter Ltd. As well as being the President of the Diamond Group of Companies for over 20 years he was the Provincial Commissioner of St. John Ambulance for 17 years and was made the Knight of the Order of St. John. He also received the Order of Canada in 1985 and the Distinguished Citizen Award of Fredericton in 1987. Many young hockey players benefited because of his involvement in the establishment and support of minor hockey in Fredericton. The family would like to thank Mr. Colter's caregivers and the nursing staff of 4 Northeast for all of their thoughtful care. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, July 12th at Bishop's Funeral Home. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 13th at Wilmot United Church.
