WHITNEY, JOHN REID The death of John Reid Whitney husband of Julie (Walsh) Whitney of 243 King George Highway, Miramichi, NB occurred on Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at the age of 70. Born in Newcastle John was the son of the late John and Theresa (McLean) Whitney. John was a Funeral Assistant with Bell's and Meadows Funeral Homes for over 21 years, a member of the Newcastle Curling Club, St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church where he dedicated his time for many occasions, past member of the Miramichi Golf and Country Club and was retired from Repap after 29 years. Besides his wife Julie, John is survived by three daughters: Valerie Whitney of Strathadam, NB, Heather Scott (Rick) of Woodstock, NB and Lisa McKibbon (Kim) of South Esk, NB; two sisters: Joyce Gilks of Dalhousie, NB and Mary Theresa Russell (David) of Woodstock, NB; two brothers: James (Audrey) of Williamstown, NB and Charles of Miramichi, NB; five grandchildren: Justin and Kristin Silliker, Bradley Whitney, Laken Whitney and Ashlee McKibbon and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his first wife June Parker and his son Johnny and brother Burnley. Visitation will be held at Bell's Funeral Home on Friday from 2-4 & 7-9. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, July 19, 2008 at 11 AM from St.Mary's Roman Catholic Church. Burial will take place in the Derby United Church Cemetery, Millerton, NB.
