RICHARD "DICK" BAGNALL
BAGNALL, RICHARD "DICK" At his home in Fredericton, Richard "Dick" Bagnall passed away on July 30, 2008 at the age of 85. Born in Charlottetown, PEI, he was a son of the late Andrew and Augusta (McPherson) Bagnall both formerly of Hunter River, PEI. Richard had a PhD in Virology and was a renowned expert in potato viruses, contributing extensively to the Maritime Seed Potato Industry. He worked for the Federal Government for 40 years, semi retiring in 1981. Richard enjoyed golf and was a Belevedere PEI Club Champion and a Fredericton Golf Club Champion. In addition to winning championships he recorded 5 holes-in-one. He coached minor hockey and he is on the Wall of Fame with the 1950-51 Fredericton Capitals. Richard was a Montreal Canadien's and Boston Red Sox fan. He had many friends who were either Maple Leaf or Yankee fans, but he didn't hold that against them. He is survived by four children John Bagnall (Maureen Michaud) of Fredericton, Anne Hill (Barry Hill) of St. George, NB, Pamela Holmes (Brian Holmes) of New Glasgow, NS, Richard Jr. of Fredericton; two grandchildren Charlotte and Alexandra; one sister Elanor Hinton of Summerside, PEI; many nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by a sister Katherine Mills and a brother Edward Bagnall. The family will receive friends at Bishop's Funeral Home, 540 Woodstock Road on Friday August 1st, 2008 from 7 to 9 pm. No service will be held at this time. A private interment will be held.
