WILFRED EDWARD - BIGGS

BIGGS, WILFRED EDWARD - 61. After a courageous 18 month battle with brain cancer, Wil passed away peacefully and with dignity with his wife Elizabeth at his side and his family close by on August 5, 2008, in the Oromocto Public Hospital. Wil was born November 23, 1946 in Longueuil Quebec. As a teenager Wil was an Army Cadet and from there he moved on to the militia and joined 30 Field Squadron R.C.E. On April 28, 1967 Wilfred joined the Regular force as a Sapper with his first posting being Gagetown NB. He gave 37 years as a Military Engineer and was best known to most of his comrades as Bill Biggs - W.O.W.E.! He traveled throughout his military career, with postings to Germany 1971, Petawawa 1974, Cornwallis 1977, Alert 1978, Gagetown 1980, Ottawa 1984, Chilliwack 1992 and Oromocto 1997 where he remained until his retirement in 2002. Wilfred enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren. He loved to work with his hands, was passionate about gardening and loved to make people laugh. Upon retirement from the military, December 13, 2002, Wilfred joined the team at Kent Building Supplies in Fredericton NB. He was nicknamed "The gate keeper". Upon semi-retirement he travelled to Ireland and Paris, France with friends and family. He was predeceased by mother Beryl (Pat) Victoria (Brown) and son Douglas Arthur Biggs. He is survived by his wife Elizabeth (Emberly/Card) Biggs, Oromocto NB; his first wife Gloria (Cousins-Perry), Coldbrook NS; his father Fenton Douglas Biggs, Halifax NS; brothers David (Robin), Halifax NS, Arthur (Anne), Halifax NS, and Robert (Debbie) Bridgewater NS; sisters Lynne Lyndhurst (Jay), Dartmouth NS and Christine Reece (Wayne), Bridgewater NS; sons Shawn (Cindy), New Minas NS, Sheldon Card, Halifax NS and Leslie Card (Kirstie), Brooklyn NS; daughters Lisa van Oord (Joas), Springfield NB; Sara Low (Darren), Sydney NS and Leigh-Anne Card (Dave), Brooklyn NS; and his beloved grandchildren: Stephen, Troy, Brandon, Sunny, Jennifer, Zevff, Joy, Chase and Anishka, as well as his great-grandson Evan. A viewing will take place at the Oromocto Select Community Funeral Home on Thursday, August 7, from 2pm to 4pm, and 7pm to 9pm. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church on Friday, August 8th, at 11am family and friends are welcome. A fellowship will follow in the Church Family Center. A Memorial Service will be held in Halifax NS at a later date. Donations may be made to the Oromocto Public Hospital or The Canadian Military Engineer Museum in Gagetown NB.
