RALPH REDMOND

REDMOND, RALPH It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of Ralph Redmond. He passed away on October 3, 2008 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers hospital after a long and painful struggle with cancer which he endured with grace, patience and dignity. Ralph was born in the village of Upper Musquodoboit, Nova Scotia, in 1926 and grew up in Truro. He served in the Canadian Armed Forces from 1944 to 1946. He went on to graduate from the University of New Brunswick as a Professional Forester in 1952 and then enjoyed a long and fulfilling 33-year career in Fredericton with the New Brunswick Department of Natural Resources. He held several positions in the department, including a number of years as Director of Forest Management. He was appointed Assistant Deputy Minister in 1982 and retired from this position in 1990. Ralph was well respected by his peers in both the public and private forestry communities for his professional knowledge and judgment. Ralph was an avid outdoorsman who had a deep love of nature and an appreciation for the simple pleasures of life. He enjoyed long daily walks, cross-county skiing and fishing on the Dungarvon and Miramichi Rivers. Ralph will be remembered by all who knew him for his gentle, thoughtful nature and his quick wit. Ralph was a wonderful husband, father and friend, and will be dearly missed by his wife, Sara, his son, Michael, his daughters, Shawn and Cait and his son-in-law, Steve Myrden, as well as his sister, Phyllis Carter and her husband Doug, his nephew, Gerry Redmond, other nieces and nephews, and his many friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Alexander Redmond and Christina Fancy, his sisters, Sigrid and Shirley and his brother Gerald. We extend our sincere thanks to all of Ralph's friends who lovingly supported him and the family through his last difficult year. We would also like to thank the caring and attentive staff of the Palliative Care Unit at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital. An informal reception in commemoration of Ralph will be held at The Delta Hotel in Fredericton on Thursday, October 9 from 4:30 to 6:30 pm. A private interment will take place at a later date. As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to McAdam's Select Community Funeral Home, 160 York Street, Fredericton, NB. 459-9170 www.mcadamsfh.com
