MABEL LORETTA RICE

RICE, MABEL LORETTA The passing of Mabel Loretta Rice of Fredericton, NB, wife of the late Hazen Rice, occurred on Wednesday, October 15, 2008 at the Pine Grove Nursing Home. Born in 1918 in Woodlands, NB, she was the daughter of the late Bessie and Samuel Painter. Mabel lived all her married life in Barker's Point. In later years she moved to Nashwaaksis with her daughter, Gloria. She was a wonderful caring wife, mother and grandmother. Mabel was a homemaker for many years and in the early 60's worked as a seamstress at Curll's Ladies Wear, Abram's Furrier and the Towne Shoppe, until her retirement. Mabel was noted for her exceptional sewing skills and beautiful handmade quilts; she won many ribbons over the years at the FREX. She was an amazing cook and baked many cookies and rolls for numerous church and community functions. Mabel was one of the founding members of the Greenwood Drive Baptist Church and was always active in her church. She was a member of the W.M.S, ladies auxiliary, Willing Hands and a lifetime member of the Barkers Point Women's Institute. Mabel is survived by her son, Craig Sturgeon (Monica) of BC; two daughters, Marilyn Chenard (Wayne) of Gagetown, NB and Gloria DeWolfe of Fredericton, NB; eleven grandchildren, Melanie, Julie, Peter, Andrew, Tammy, Amy, Ernest, Ann, Jennie, Mandy and Geoff; fourteen great grandchildren; sister, Agnes Palmer (Fred) and daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Rice. Besides her parents and husband, Mabel was predeceased by sons, infant William and Charles; grandson, Rick; eleven brothers and sisters. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home on Saturday, October 18, 2008 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Funeral Service will take place at York Funeral Home's T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel on Sunday, October 19, 2008 at 2:30 pm with Rev. Paul Thompson officiating. Interment will take place in Fredericton Rural Cemetery (Extension), Woodstock Road.
