JOHN BOULTON BELL

BELL, JOHN BOULTON The passing of John Boulton Bell of Fredericton, NB, husband of E. Barbara (Knight) Bell, occurred on Tuesday, November 4, 2008 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on July 29, 1924 in Brigg, England, he was the son of the late Thomas and Frances (Eggleston) Bell and moved to Canada in 1958. John was a professor of Education with the University of NB from 1969-1986. He was the first president of the NB Soccer Association and alumnus of the Canadian Soccer Association. He was also active in Track and Field associations and was a coach and referee at local, national and international levels. John was a veteran of WWII in the British merchant navy and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #4, Fredericton. In addition to his wife, John is survived by his daughters, Dr. Helen Bell (Ross Thompson) of Truro, NS, Elisabeth Bell (Paul LaFleche) of Halifax, NS and Justine Blizzard (Michael) of Fredericton; grandchildren, Hannah and Thomas Blizzard, and Ruth and Robyn LaFleche; sister, Kathleen Harrington of Hornsea, England; brother, Peter Bell of Brigg, England and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Bessie Tate and Margaret Riley. There will be no visitation or funeral by request. Arrangements are entrusted to York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
