RICKARD, ERNEST MANZER On November 20, 2008, Ernest M. Rickard, age 90, of Barker's Point passed away peacefully. Born in Barker's Point on July 13, 1918, he was a son of the late Tippit and Gertrude (Howland) Rickard. Ernie was employed at Springhill Farm; Eastern Bakeries; and as a Stationary Engineer, Department of Education, Town of Oromocto. He was an avid gardener, and for many years co-owned and operated Rickard's Greenhouse in Barker's Point with his wife Joyce. Ernie is survived by his wife Joyce (McMurtrie) Rickard; two daughters, Bonnie Reece (Phillip) of Quispamsis, Shirley Grass (Donald) of Fredericton; daughter-in-law Nancy Rickard of Ashburn, ON; and seven grandchildren, Adam, Amanda and Marilyn, Erin and Sarah, Rosemary and James; six great grandsons; brother-in-law Eric McMurtrie; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by a daughter Diane; his son Paul; brother Walter; and sister Muriel Hawkins. Visitation will be held at Bishop's Funeral Home 540 Woodstock Road, on Monday November 24, 2008 from 1-2 PM, at which time the funeral service will be held with Rev. Harold Arbo officiating. Interment in the Rural Cemetery Extension. A reception will be held at the funeral home immediately following the burial. The family has suggested memorial contributions be sent to the Fredericton S.P.C.A. or to a charity of the donor's choice.
