CAVANAUGH, HUGH WELDON The passing of Hugh Weldon Cavanaugh of Burton, NB occurred at the Oromocto Public Hospital on Saturday, December 6, 2008. He was 87. Born April 28, 1921 in Burton, he was the son of the late Guy and Elsie (Nicholls) Cavanaugh. Anglican by faith, he was a member of St. John's Anglican Church, Oromocto. He was a retired Federal Civil Servant having worked at Base Gagetown for over 25 years. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 93, Oromocto. A veteran of WWII, he served overseas in Sicily, Italy and Holland with the Carleton York Regiment. Weldon is survived by his wife of 62 years, Betty C. (Stokes) Cavanaugh; three sons, Arthur (Evelyn) of Weldfield, NB, Ronald (Becky) of Burton and Allen (Sylvie) of Burton; two daughters, Judith Schifke of Burton and Marion MacDonald (Francis) of Burton; nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren; one sister, Lillian Estabrooks of Truro, NS; a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by his parents; brothers Lawrence, Gerald and infant twin brothers William and Arthur; sisters Gladys Geldart, Dorothy Arsenault and Phyllis Richard. Visitation will be held at Bishop's Funeral Home, 540 Woodstock Road, Fredericton on Monday, December 8, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM. The funeral service will be held from St. John's Anglican Church, 60 Broad Road, Oromocto, on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Keith Howlett officiating. Interment in St. Paul's Anglican Church Cemetery, Burton, NB. Pallbearers will be Tom, Jason, Geoffrey and Tommy Thomas, Francis MacDonald and Terrance Bernard. Honorary Pallbearers will be Ryan Thomas, David Thompson and Kevin Cavanaugh. A legion tribute service will be held at the funeral home Monday evening at 7:00 PM.
