DOUGLAS D. JACKSON

JACKSON, DOUGLAS D. It is with great shock and sadness that we announce the sudden death of Douglas D. Jackson at his home in Fredericton on December 21, 2008. Born March 3, 1929, he was the son of Bailey and Josephine (DeWitt) Jackson. Doug was an educator, teaching and holding principalships in Ortonville, Black's Harbour, McAdam, Campobello, Bath, Florenceville and Debec. He served in the Department of Education in various posts, including Director of Educational Services. He was a Dean of the New Brunswick Community College in Saint John and later set up his own company, Jackson & Henry, for vocational training and development. Doug was keenly interested in helping young people achieve their potential. Besides family, his passions included family history, which he researched extensively, and the Boston Red Sox, which he followed daily. He was a member of the Brunswick Street Baptist Church. Doug is survived by his wife of nearly 59 years, Phyllis (Dickson) Jackson; daughter Joanne MacLean (James); two sons, Douglas Jackson and Robert Jackson (Nadine Currie); grand-daughter Jennifer Bruce; two step-grandchildren, Matthew and Mary MacLean; two great-grandchildren, Bailey and William Astle, all of Fredericton; sister Jacqueline Smith; two brothers, Cecil Jackson (Clara) and Gerald Jackson (Joyce); sister-in-law Glenna Jackson, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and by brothers John and James Jackson. The family will receive family and friends at McAdam's Funeral Home at 160 York Street, Fredericton on Friday, December 26, 2008 from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service will take place on Saturday, December 27, 2008 at 1:00 pm at McAdam's Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Greg Geldart, Associate Pastor, Brunswick Street Baptist Church in Fredericton, will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Doug's memory to a charity of the donor's choice, and would be appreciated by the family. www.mcadamsfh.com
