MARY MONICA (MONA) ROBERTSON

ROBERTSON, MARY MONICA (MONA) Mrs. Mary Monica (Mona) Robertson died peacefully on January 16, 2009 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital, Fredericton, New Brunswick. Born in Bath, Carleton County, New Brunswick on June 10, 1915, Mona was the daughter of Matthew and Mary Martin (Doherty) Gallagher. She received her early education in Bath graduating in 1930 from Bath High School. At age 15, she entered the Bachelor of Arts program at Saint Francis Xavier University and received her degree (Cum Laude) in 1934. Mona married H. T. (Ted) Robertson in 1938. They resided in Antigonish and Port Hawkesbury Nova Scotia until his untimely death in September of 1950. In time, Mona together with her five children moved to Saint John. The highlight of her working career was as Archivist - New Brunswick Museum (1970-1980). During this period, she authored several historical and genealogical publications. Besides her parents and husband, Mona was predeceased by her brothers, Walter Gallagher (1979) and Monsignor (Dr.) Joseph M. Gallagher (1994) and by her daughter, Stephanie (1987). She is survived by two daughters, Martin (A. Samuel) Wakim of Toronto and Monica (Francis) Tanner of Ottawa; two sons, Dr. Matthew J. (Christine) Robertson of the Philippines and Mr. Justice Joseph T. (Susan) Robertson of Fredericton. As well, she is survived by 17 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. As a mother and grandmother, she was as patient as she was wise and as loving as was she was selfless. Her daughters Martin and Monica are deeply grateful and indebted to their sister-in-law Sue Robertson for the time and devotion so willingly and generously given over the years. The family wishes to thank the staff at the Windsor Court Retirement Home for their genuine kindness and care. As well, a debt of gratitude is extended to Dr. Beal and the nursing staff on 4NE. There is no visitation by request. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Dunstan's Roman Catholic Church on Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at 12:00 noon with Father Gerry White officiating. Interment will take place in the spring in the family plot in Johnville. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Fredericton Food Bank would be appreciated.
