WILLIAM (BILL) WARRELL

WARRELL, WILLIAM (BILL) 1918-2009 - It is with sadness our family announces our Dad's passing on January 28, 2009 at the DECH in Fredericton. Born in County Farmanagh, Northern Ireland, he was the loving husband of Peggy (Margaret McNeill) and the son of the late Robert and Isabella (Robb) Warrell. In the late 1920's, Dad immigrated with his family to Canada finally settling in Fredericton. A veteran of World War II, Dad proudly served with the 90th Battery, 1st Anti-Tank Regiment seeing action along the coast of Britain, in Sicily, Italy, France, Belgium, at the Liberation of Holland, in the Black Forest, and was engaged in battle that involved the crossing the Rhine River of Germany when peace/cease fire was declared. While in Scotland he met and, in 1942, married our mother. In 1945, Dad and his bride came to Canada where he continued his service with the Reserve Army while being employed full-time as a linesman then a serviceman with NB Power retiring in 1978. Dad received his Sergeant's stripes on the field of battle and retired in 1962 from the Reserve Army at the rank of Sergeant Major, he was a recipient of the Canadian Efficiency Medal which he did not receive until June 2001. Dad had the reputation of being a hard worker and taskmaster, but also of never asking anyone to do a task he wouldn't do himself. Dad was a quiet man with a deep love for his family. In addition to our mother, Dad is survived by his daughters Eleanor (Gerry) Simms and Isaobel MacKinnon; his son John (Susan) Warrell of Fort McMurray; his loving grandchildren Leanne (Steve) Cooke, Darren (Karen) Bragdon of Sherwood Park, Tony (Schelly) MacKinnon, Adam Warrell of Fort McMurray; great-grandchildren Brandyn and Chelsea Cooke, Ryan and Laura MacKinnon and James Robins; several nieces and nephews; and his faithful pal Molly. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his sisters Isa Bezeg, Lillie Welling, Sarah Kerr and brother Robert Warrell. We would like to thank the doctors, nurses and support staff of the York Manor Nursing Home Dixon Lodge and DECH Emergency Room and anyone who was involved in Dad's care during the past few years for their kindness and support. We would also like to extend special thanks Dr. D. Flower for the excellent care and compassion he has shown not only to Dad but also to Mom and the family during these difficult years.
