VERA MCGRATH

MCGRATH, VERA Vera McGrath, age 84 of Lincoln passed away peacefully at the Oromocto Public Hospital on Sunday, February 1st, 2009. She was the daughter of the late William and Alice (Mitchell) Merrett. Vera was born in Llandough, South Wales on May 25th, 1924. The family immigrated to Canada in April of 1929 settling on a farm in Oromocto. She was the wife of the late Roger McGrath who passed away in 1994. Vera was a member of the Canadian Women's Army Corps having served in Canada and the U.S.A. during WWII. Prior to her marriage she worked for Canadian Cotton Mills in Hamilton, ON and Marysville, NB. After her marriage to the late Roger McGrath, they operated a farm in Maugerville for forty years. She is survived by her daughters, Ann McGrath at home and Heather Merrett (Francis Detcheverry) of Moncton, NB; one brother, Alan Merrett of French Lake, NB and one sister, Megan Alliston of Mountainside Lodge, Island View, NB. She is also survived by one granddaughter, Angela Hill and one great-granddaughter, Kaitlyn of Calgary, AB as well as several nieces and nephews. Her daughter Ann, wishes to extend a special thank you to Vera's caregivers, Carmie Jennex, Katie Longphee, Sylvia Howatt and Wanda Ringuette over the last 14 months. An extra special thanks to her VON nurse, Prudy Libby for the many years of kindness and care. Visitation will take place at the Oromocto Select Community Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 4th, 2009 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church on Thursday, February 5th, 2009 at 11:00 am with Fr. Ken Weir as celebrant.
