78, Sydney Roy Francis MacNeil died peacefully at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, on Wednesday, April 16, 2008, surrounded by his loving family. Roy was born in Sydney and resided at 55 Yendys St. all his life. He was the son of the late John R. ‘Rod’ and Mary Jane (MacLean) MacNeil. He was employed at the Sydney Steel Corp. for 40 years, retiring from the open hearth department. Roy is survived by his sister, Jessie MacNeil; brothers, Leo (Margie), Howard (Margie) and Alfie (Deanna) MacNeil. A much loved and respected uncle, Roy is also survived by nieces and nephews, Janet (Rick) MacKinnon, Blair (Linda) MacNeil, Gary (Darlene) MacNeil, Marie (Kevin) Dilney, Robert MacNeil, Joanne (Mike) MacIsaac, Karen (Mike) Laurendeau, Shauna (Donnie) Fraser, Lori MacNeil, Tommy (Brenda) MacNeil, Anne Marie (Michael) Currie, Laureen (Bob) Kerr, Gail (Warren) Campbell and Verna MacNeil. Besides his parents, Roy was predeceased by his brother-in-law, John J. MacNeil. Visitation for the late Mr. MacNeil will take place today (Thursday) at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony Daniel Church with Rev. Donald MacGillivary officiating.
