Sr. Mary Vianney Boyle

72, Antigonish Sr. Mary Vianney Boyle, 72, a Sister of St. Martha of Antigonish, died at Bethany, the motherhouse, on Wednesday, April 16, 2008, in the 53rd year of her religious life. Born in Afton, Antigonish County, N.S., she was one of six children of the late Richard and Anna (Riley) Boyle. Sister entered the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Martha on Aug. 15, 1953, pronounced her first vows on Aug. 15, 1955, and her perpetual profession of vows on Aug. 15, 1958. A graduate of St. Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing, Glace Bay, she spent most of her years in ministry in the field of health care. In Nova Scotia, she served at the R.K. MacDonald Guest House and St. Martha’s Hospital, both in Antigonish, and at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Glace Bay. She ministered also at St. John’s Hospital, Lowell, Mass. Sr. Mary Vianney Boyle did post graduate studies at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto and in Boston at Peter-Bent Brigham Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital. In 1979 she qualified for a health record technician diploma. Sr. Vianney Boyle is survived by sisters, Cecelia Waddleton and Monica Craber, both of Ontario, and a brother, Richard, Afton, N.S. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by brothers, Henry and John. The remains will be resting at Bethany, beginning Monday, April 21, 2008, at 1:15 p.m., where a Celebration of Vigil will be held on the same evening at 7:30 p.m. Liturgy of Christian Burial will take place Tuesday afternoon, April 22, 2008, at 2 p.m. in Bethany Chapel.
