89, New Glasgow Murray Groves, 89, slipped into the hands of God, Tuesday, April 15, 2008, at the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. A decorated veteran of the Second World War, Murray was born in North Sydney, N.S., on Oct. 22, 1918, and will be dearly missed by his family. Outside of his family, Murray’s greatest love was his native Cape Breton. He relished the summer days spent at the family cottage on Boularderie Island with his family and friend present, allowing him to BBQ his famous steak dinners. Murray was an avid dog lover and all through his life you could find one of his furry friends close at hand. Murray was the last member of the William James Groves/Ida Maude (nee: Organ) family being predeceased by his son, Blair; his parents; brothers, William, Cecil, Russell and Alexander, all of North Sydney, Hue, Edmundston, N.B., Donald, New Jersey, U.S.A.; sisters, Elizabeth, Boston, U.S.A., Blanche, Sydney, Doris, Boston, Jean, North Sydney. Murray is survived by his wife of 67 years, Carolyn (nee: MacLean); sons, Murray (Sheila), Milton, Ont., Bruce (Heather), Kentville; daughter, Brenda Smith (Lorne), New Glasgow; grandchildren, Blair, Bruce, Kim, Stacy, Michelle, Kelli and Russell; great-grandchildren, Kaitlin and Kallie Allen, Kentville, Hannah Bennett, New Glasgow, and Michael Gambin, Kentville. Cremation has taken place through the H. W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Cremation has taken place. Interment to follow at a later date with a family service in North Sydney. Murray was a member of St. Matthew-Wesley United Church, Peppett Street, North Sydney, to which donations may be made in remembrance of him.
