J. SIDNEY "SID" HARRIS
HARRIS, J. SIDNEY "SID" James Sidney "Sid" Harris husband of the late Shirley (Ryan) Harris, passed away on Wednesday, April 29, 2009 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on November 6, 1928 in Fredericton, NB, he was the son of the late J. Edgar and Hilda (Shepherd) Harris of Barker's Point. After graduation from high school, Sid worked as a carpenter for over 20 years. He then worked as a Maintenance Repairman and Instructor of Carpentry at the Department of the Attorney General. He then moved to the Department of Labour as an Apprenticeship and Training Officer, then to Supervisor I, Assistant Director and then to the position of Director of Apprenticeship and Training, retiring from this position after 28 years with the Provincial Government. Sid was a past member of the Carpenters and Joiners Union, a Life Member of the Barker's Point Lions Club, Barker's Point Volunteer Fire Department and the Barker's Point Village Council. Sid was an avid reader and enjoyed spending many hours discussing literature with fellow book lovers. Sid is survived by daughters, Linda McCoy (Campbell) and Cindy Harris (Rick Crandall) both of Noonan; grandsons, Shawn McCoy (Maryann) of Fredericton and Jason McCoy (Shawna) of Rusagonis; great grandchildren, Brett, Abby and Jared; brothers, Scott (Charrie) of Burton, Ralph (Marion) of Oromocto and Dale (Solonge) of Edmundston. Although there will be no visitation by request, a Private Family Funeral Service will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB on Saturday, May 2, 2009 at 2 pm with Pastor Peter Thomas officiating. Interment will take place in Forest Hill Cemetery at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
